FAQs & Policies
- What should I expect?
If you have not received a Therapeutic Massage, here is a description of what to expect:
Before your massage, you will meet with your therapist for a brief consultation to discuss any medical conditions. Next you will be asked to undress to your comfort level in a private room and lie on a heated massage table. Your therapist will explain everything in detail before your session. You will be under a sheet and blanket. Only the part of the body which is being worked on will be uncovered…at no time are you fully exposed. Your therapist will ensure that the pressure being used is comfortable. During your session, it is important to let the therapist know if you are uncomfortable, if the pressure is not to your liking, or if you become too cold or warm. Some clients chose to remain quiet during their sessions while others enjoy talking occasionally. The session is your time to unwind, relax, and rejuvenate.
- What should I do during the massage?
This is your time to relax and unwind. Most clients lie quietly and many even doze off. Others prefer to chat. It's up to you. Your therapist will not initiate conversation during your session (except to check in with you about pressure, etc). If your therapist needs to life your head, move your arm, etc, just let them do all the work while you totally relax your muscles. Many clients focus on the music or their breathing so they can achieve maximum relaxation. Clearing your mind does the body good!
- What do I wear during my massage?
You'll be asked to undress to your comfort level. Some clients fully undress while others prefer to leave undergarments on. It is your choice. At no time will your therapist expose you. You will remain draped with sheets/blanket and no private areas are ever seen. Many clients fully undress so the therapist can work on the gluteal area. This area is often overlooked and massage is very beneficial for low back, hamstring and hip pain.
- How often should I have a massage?
Like most health care visits, one size does not fit all. Everyone is unique and each person has different activity and stress levels. After your session, your therapist will give you a recommendation. If you haven't had massage before, or if a lot of time has passed since your last massage, your therapist may recommend that you are seen more frequently in the beginning until your muscles can "learn" to relax again. It also depends on your pain level, activity level, stress level, etc. Massage is not just a luxury to be enjoyed once or twice per year. Many view massage as an integral part of their health care plan for themselves ans for their families. Massage is great for all ages.
-Who should not receive massage?
This is determined on a case-by-case basis. If you have a fever, illness, infection, contagious skin disorder, uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood clot or other serious condition you should not receive massage. When you arrive your therapist will review your health conditions and medications with you to ensure that you are being taken care of in a safe manner. Simply Serene works with Oncology patients, infants, children, pregnant and postpartum women as well.
