About Infant Massage & the Classes:

Infant Massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically to promote the healthy development of your infant. Caring human touch is crucial for a healthy thriving baby, and the benefits of massaging your infant are potent and numerous. For example, many infants show improved growth and development of the brain and nervous system. Infant massage has also been shown to improve the quality of a baby's sleep, as well as strengthening their immune system. Infants benefit from touch.  Physically, massage stimulates the nerves and strengthens the immune system. Massage can help with colic, constipation, and ease digestion.

Our classes teach parents and caregivers many massage techniques and exercises to help infants with a variety of conditions. Classes will  focus on infants aged 6 weeks through 1 year, however the techniques can be beneficial for children older than a year as well.  Babies are welcome and encouraged to be brought to class so that the parent can practice the techniques right on the baby. If a baby falls alseep during the class or unwilling to cooperate, a doll can be used for practicing.

Who can take these Classes?

Classes are designed for parents and their babies; however, the class is also suited for grandparents, caretakers, day care workers, social workers, nurses or health care professionals - anyone who regularily interacts with infants and has the opportunity to use massage therapy to benefit children.

For expectant parents, you are also welcome to attend the class so you will be prepared when your bundle of joy arrives!

What will be taught in the classes?

You will learn about the numerous benefits that Infant Massage provides. You will learn when it is and is not appropriate to massage infants. Many massage techniques (strokes and stretching exercises) will be shown and you will have the opportunity to practice on your infant.  These techniques will improve baby's coordination and muscle development. You will also learn how to assist your baby when they have constipation, colic, gas and common colds/sinus issues.

Baby-safe massage oil will be provided for you.
